It seems like some home inspectors will be able to tell
you if the shingles on the home you are buying are defective or not but when in
doubt, you might want to think about getting a good roofing contractor out to
take a good look at just the roof.
Also know that not all of those Atlas Chalet shingles are defective. I had
a buyer get a roofer out to check a home that definitely had the shingles.
But roofer verified that they were Atlas
Chalet but said that they were in great condition for a 10 year old roof.
He said that they are much thicker than other shingles so that if you don't have
a bad batch, you can actually have a roof that might last longer than average.
The key is to have a good roofer do a good roof inspection to let you know just
what you are dealing with.
