Chicago CondosDesigned by world-famous architect Frank Gehry, the 24.5-acre park features the Pritzker Pavilion, an outdoor music venue; the Harris Theater for Music and Dance; an upscale restaurant as well as a casual outdoor dining spot; the Crown Fountain, consisting of two 50-foot block towers at the end of a shallow reflecting pool onto which the faces of ordinary Chicago citizens are reflected; an ice skating rink; the beautiful Lurie gardens; and Cloud Gate, a 110-ton elliptical sculpture that Chicagoans have nicknamed “The Bean.” Today the city has one of the world's best collections of modern architecture, from Frank Lloyd Wright houses to the 110-story Sears Tower, which dominates the pancake-flat prairies for hundreds of miles around, Chicago's status as the cultural and financial heart of middle America is beyond question. According to 2000 Census figures, approximately 16,000 people live in Chicago’s downtown area. Real estate tends to be rather pricey. New Chicago condos developing in the area are the Heritage at Millennium Park - a 350-unit building at Randolph Street and Wabash Avenue, they are currently being built. The building will contain a health club, two-story atriums, a pool and other amenities; prices range from $300,000 to $4 million for a penthouse apartment. Also being constructed is Legacy at Millennium Park, located west of Michigan Avenue at Monroe Street. The 355-unit building will feature one, two, three and four-bedroom units. Prices start at the mid-$300,000’s, and top off at $5 million. The opening of Millennium Park in 2004 has transformed downtown Chicago, bringing thousands of additional visitors into the area each day. Located on prestigious Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park’s boundaries include Michigan Avenue to the west, Columbus Drive to the east, Randolph Street to the north, and Monroe Street to the south. The historical center of downtown Chicago Illinois is called the “Loop,” which is technically considered the five-by-seven-block area contained within the circuit formed by the elevated Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) transit line. Those boundaries are Lake Street on the north, Wells Street on the west, Van Buren on the south, and Wabash Avenue on the east. The second largest downtown business district in the United States after Midtown Manhattan, the area contains many notable buildings and a wealth of outdoor sculptures including works by Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Calder, and other artists. Well-known Loop buildings include City Hall; the Goodman Theatre; Symphony Center, which houses the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; the historic Palmer House Hilton; the Richard J. Daley Center; the original Carson Pirie, Scott department store designed by famed architects Adler and Sullivan; the James R. Thompson (State of Illinois) building designed by architect Helmut Jahn; and the block-long Marshall Field department store- a Chicago institution that was transformed into a flagship Macy’s department store in September, 2006.
